HousifyHub operates the website housifyhub.com, a property listing platform connecting landlords and property seekers in Kenya. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal data in accordance with the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019.

By using HousifyHub, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.

  1. Who We Are

HousifyHub is currently operated by its founders in Kenya and the Netherlands. A limited company is being registered and this policy will be updated once that is complete.

  1. What Data We Collect

For visitors (property seekers):

  • First name, last name, email address, phone number (upon registration)
  • Saved/favourite property listings
  • General usage data (pages visited, search queries)

For landlords / property listers:

  • First name, last name, email address, phone number (upon registration)
  • Property details submitted for listing (address, photos, pricing, description)
  • Payment information (HousifyHub is currently free to use. If paid features are introduced, payments will be handled by a third-party payment provider and we will not store card or M-Pesa details directly)

Automatically collected data:

  • IP address, browser type, device type
  • Cookies and similar tracking technologies (see Section 8)
  1. How We Use Your Data

We use your personal data to:

  • Create and manage your account
  • Display your property listings on the platform
  • Enable property search and saved favourites
  • Send account-related notifications (e.g. listing expiry reminders)
  • Process payments, if and when paid features are introduced
  • Improve the platform and troubleshoot technical issues
  • Comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

  1. Legal Basis for Processing

We process your data on the following grounds:

  • Contract performance: to provide the services you signed up for

  • A payment provider (only if paid features are introduced), governed by their own privacy policy
  • Hostinger (web hosting), servers located in India/Singapore
  • Legal authorities if required by Kenyan law

We do not share your data with advertisers or unrelated third parties.

  • Active account data is retained for as long as your account exists
  • Property listing data is deleted or anonymised 90 days after listing expiry
  • If you delete your account, your personal data is removed within 30 days
  • We may retain certain data longer if required by law

HousifyHub uses cookies to:

  • Keep you logged in (session cookies)
  • Remember your preferences
  • Analyse general platform usage (analytics)

You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though this may affect platform functionality.

Visitor statistics. We use a small first-party cookie containing a randomly generated identifier to count how many people visit HousifyHub each day and whether they are visiting for the first time. This identifier is not linked to your name, email address, or any other personal information, and it is never shared with third parties. We use these aggregated statistics solely to understand how our platform is used.

Google Ads conversion measurement. On our landlord pages and when you submit a listing, we use Google Ads to measure whether an advertisement led to a listing being submitted. If you arrived from a Google ad, Google stores an advertising click identifier in a cookie on your device (for up to 90 days). When you complete a listing, we send Google only a conversion signal and an internal listing number. We do not send your name, email address, phone number or the contents of your listing. Google processes this information under its own privacy policy (policies.google.com/privacy).

Under the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data (“right to be forgotten”)
  • Object to or restrict processing of your data
  • Lodge a complaint with the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC) Kenya

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data against unauthorised access, loss, or misuse. All data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS connections.
